ESTORIL HOUSE
The guiding thread that can generate new spatiality
During the first visits, it became clear that there had been different phases of construction and expansion of the house, which ended up altering and distorting the original modernist design. The challenge begins with the client's intentions for the interior spaces, but at the same time also involves attempting to resolve the flaws of the existing alterations, creating a common thread capable of uniting all of that reality.
The intervention has different scales. On the ground floor, the kitchen area has been substantially altered to create a visual connection between the living spaces and also to serve as the center of the social area. Generous openings to the outside have been created to enhance the entry of light and the direct relationship with the garden. On the upper floor, the intervention is more surgical, creating two suites in the south area and two bedrooms supported by a complete bathroom.
The materiality of the project seeks comfort and consistency. Natural wood on the upper floor and neutral colours on the remaining mosaic and micro-cement coverings and paint. The base created enhances all the decoration chosen by the client.
The exterior was improved and standardised using green acrylic mortar texture and new window frames. The entire garden was upgraded and improved, creating areas for relaxation at the front, but mainly at the rear, with the creation of a private water feature and an outdoor kitchen.
The final result of the search for a common thread throughout all the different aspects of the project was a new home with a revisited and spatially enhanced experience.
